Advertising: The New Frontier

Advertisers are always looking for new markets to advertise their products in.  They have devoured the web, especially web2.0, utilizing banners and buying the top spots on web searches.  Two companies are teaming up to jump-start the next generation of marketing. SpashCast is a marketing firm that targets young adults, mostly in social networking sites.  Clearspring is a company that tracks and analyzes widget use, and pairs use marketing firms with their target audience (i.e. Splashcast).  Basically, Splashcast creates the user content and Clearspring tracks the widget use, injects with widgets with advertisements, and reports feedback to Splashcast.

I think this is a great example of not only businesses partnering with Web2.0 opportunities and partnering with those concepts, but also partnering with each other, business to business.  This partnership isn’t an online technology specialty business joining with a regular advertising firm, but two business created and generated specifically with Web2.0 in mind.  I think it is amazing that Web2.0 and social networking has  created an entirely new consumer AND business market.

This concept is inevitable as the prevalence and time spent on social networking sites explodes.  As peoples lives move online, advertisements are following.  Emphasis is going on the finer points of Web2, starting with widgets and social networking and inevitably continuing on to the new frontiers.
